Curryillion: the NBA trivia game that rewards the deep cut

Most NBA trivia games ask what you remember. Curryillion asks what you are willing to say. Seven prompts a day, 24 seconds each, and a rarity ladder where the name everybody knows is worth ten points and the name nobody expected is worth a hundred.

What makes an NBA trivia game worth a daily slot

There is no shortage of basketball trivia on the internet. There is a shortage of basketball trivia that is worth doing twice. Most formats are checkable rather than replayable: you either know who led the league in a given year or you do not, and once you have looked it up the question is spent forever.

Curryillion is built around the opposite idea. Every prompt ships a hand-checked board of accepted answers, sorted by how rarely players reach for them. The first name in your head is a layup. The second might be a three. The name you hesitate over because you are not sure anyone else will say it is the one worth +100. That means the same seven prompts can be played, discussed, compared and replayed without the answer being a lookup.

It also means the game is fair to different kinds of fans. A casual viewer can always score a layup on every prompt. A lifer who remembers bench rotations from a decade ago can hunt the deep tiers. The scoreboard tells you which one you were tonight.

Seven prompts, not seventy

The format is deliberately small. Seven prompts, 24 seconds each, one answer per prompt. A round takes about three minutes and resets once a day. That constraint is the product: it gives you a ritual instead of a backlog, a result you can screenshot instead of a quiz you abandon halfway.

Seven is enough for range — a players prompt, a teams prompt, a hardware prompt, a college prompt, a world-stage prompt, a numbers prompt and a culture prompt — and short enough that a bad round never feels like a wasted evening. The round is the unit, and the unit is small.

The seven categories

Every round pulls its prompts from seven pools, so the night feels like a broadcast rather than a single subject quiz. Each pool asks for a different kind of basketball memory.

Curryillion prompt categories
Category What it covers What it rewards
Players Careers, roles, awards, destinations and second acts. Depth beyond the top of the marquee.
Teams Franchises, cities, moves, dynasties and one-season wonders. History and league geography.
Hardware Rings, awards, honours and the people who collected them. Knowing who won what, not just who was famous.
College & draft Where players came from and how they arrived. Lateral memory and draft-night lore.
World stage International players, global competition and basketball beyond one league. Range across eras and borders.
The numbers Records, statistical seasons and statistical oddities. Numeric recall without needing a spreadsheet.
Courtside lore Nicknames, moments, rivalries and culture around the game. The stories fans retell in the group chat.

A round that mixes all seven is a broadcast. Themed packs let you play a single flavour on purpose — seven chapters of pure college & draft, for example — when you want to train a specific weakness.

The rarity layer, in one paragraph

Once the board is built, the scoring is simple: how few players would reach for your answer? Layup +10 is the first name everyone gives. Free Throw +25 is common with a sideways step. Three Pointer +45 is solid knowledge. Half Court +70 is genuinely uncommon. One in a Curryillion +100 is the single hidden answer on the board — true, accepted, and almost nobody's first thought.

You do not lose points for giving the obvious answer. You just watch the scoreboard stay honest about how far you reached. The full explanation lives on the rarest answer game page, and the tier table is in the rulebook.

What every good NBA trivia board needs

We built Curryillion to a short set of rules. If a daily basketball game does not meet all of them, it does not last.

  • A hand-checked board, with no dead ends. Listed answers are validated exactly, so a listed answer is never rejected. A real answer we have not catalogued yet is scored UNCHARTED +10 instead of zero, and logged for the next board update. That is why boards are curated and cross-checked rather than scraped.
  • Fair scoring. The tier should estimate how few players reach for an answer, not how clever the question writer felt.
  • A short clock. Basketball is fast. A 24-second decision keeps the game honest and stops prompts turning into research projects.
  • No spoilers in sharing. A challenge link should carry the day and the score, never the answers.
  • No account wall. A three-minute game should not ask for an email address.
  • An archive. A missed day should be bad for your streak, not for your access to the game.

How Curryillion boards are built

Each prompt is a hand-checked trivium: an accepted board of true answers split into five tiers, with exactly one answer in the +100 tier. The boards are written and reviewed by hand, then checked against a raw answer bank so a listed answer cannot silently disappear. We do not claim to list every deep cut a 508-player dataset could contain: a real answer we have not catalogued yet is scored UNCHARTED +10 and queued for review.

The results are not player-generated and they are not scraped from hot takes. That matters for a basketball trivia game: the worst failure mode is arguing with the game about whether an answer is correct. The fix is a hand-checked board, exact tier validation for every listed answer, and an honest UNCHARTED bucket for anything real we have not catalogued yet.

No invented basketball. Curryillion does not put made-up stats or fake players in your way. Prompts are about real, verifiable basketball history, and the answers are real people, teams and moments. The only invented number in the building is the score.

How the formats compare

Basketball trivia formats, honestly compared
Format How it works Best for
Multiple-choice quiz Pick one of four answers; gets easier as the options narrow the field. Learning facts quickly.
Grid game Fill a grid with answers that satisfy two intersecting criteria. Cross-referencing knowledge under pressure.
Bracket / survivor Vote through rounds until one answer remains. Group debates, not solo scores.
Rarity trivia (Curryillion) Name a true answer; the rarer it is on the board, the more it scores. A daily ritual with a score to compare.

None of these are the "right" way to do trivia. They are different games. Curryillion sits in the last row because the rarity mechanic is what makes a daily basketball game work in three minutes: you always score something, and you always leave wondering how much more a braver answer would have been worth.

NBA trivia game: questions, answered

What is the NBA trivia game Curryillion?

Curryillion is a free daily NBA trivia game. Each round gives every player the same seven basketball prompts, 24 seconds per prompt and five guesses each. Every correct answer scores according to how rare it is on the prompt's board, from Layup +10 to One in a Curryillion +100. Seven perfect answers score 700.

Is Curryillion an official NBA game?

No. Curryillion is an independent, fan-made trivia game. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the National Basketball Association, its teams or its players. Team and player names appear only as factual trivia subjects.

Do I need deep NBA knowledge to play?

No. Every prompt has an obvious answer that scores a layup, so a casual fan can always put points on the board, and every prompt has a hidden answer worth +100 for the deep-cut fans. The game is designed so knowing one era well still scores, while cross-era knowledge scores more.

How many NBA trivia prompts are there?

Curryillion ships with a full season: 365 daily rounds of seven prompts, drawn from a bank of more than 2,500 prompt appearances and well over ten thousand accepted answers. Every round that has aired stays playable in the archive.

Can I play Curryillion for free?

Yes. Curryillion is free with no sign-up, no download, no advertising; the only measurement scripts are Google Analytics and Cloudflare's cookieless Web Analytics. It runs entirely in the browser and stores your streak, best and discoveries locally on your device.

How is Curryillion different from a normal NBA quiz?

A normal quiz asks whether you know the answer. Curryillion asks how rare your correct answer is. Every prompt ships a hand-checked board of accepted answers sorted into five tiers, so the obvious name is always valid but scores least. A real answer that is not catalogued yet still scores UNCHARTED +10, and the game rewards reaching past the first name that comes to mind.
